Great stallion market with outstanding results

If you ask a Westphalian Breeder what are the most important aspects of a successful stallion they will say strength of character, quality of confirmation and soundness of limb.   These attributes were on glorious display at the Westphalian Breeder’s Equestrian Center in Munster-Handorf.  The main licensing took place over  three days from November 25 - November 27 to  packed stands with a total of 75 stallions submitted for the review by the judging committee.  Stallion licensing status  was given to 46 of those judged with 15 being awarded Premium Stallion status. 

The judging  panel,  made up of  Mr. Wilken Treu,  (Managing Director of the Westfalisches Pferdestammbuch),  Mr. Gerd Könemann, Mr. Theo Lohmann, Mr. Heinrch Plaas-Beisemann and Mr.  Michael Settertobulte , were careful in their inspections of each candidate as the demonstrated their paces, confirmation and jumping techniques throughout the testing period.

After much deliberation, the judges were unanimous in their decision to award the Westphalian Champion Stallion to son of Rock Forever I by Rockwell  of a Florencio I mother.  The breeder was Herr Heinz  Laer. The Reserve Champion was awarded by the Judging Committee to the stallion by Vitalis out of a Fürst Piccolo mare.The  second  Reserve Champion position was awarded to the Amazing Star/San Remo Stallion of KWPN bloodlines .   His owners did not wish to put him in the final stallion auction.

The Best Jumping Stallion was awarded to the Balou Bellini/Cornet Oblensky  son bred by Martin Dieckhoff and sold for 105,000 €. He wowed the audience with his outstanding free jumping , his expressive paces and elastic movement.

Immediately following these exciting results 38 stallions were auctioned in the main ring, 33 of which were approved.  In a thrilling bidding duel, 2 renowned stallion owners competed to own the Damon Hill/ Sandro Hit son out of SallyziaII, bred by Sandra Grede from Frankenberg.  The final bid of €240,000 Euros  for this talented natural was the 4th highest bid of the auction and was won by Ludger Beerbaum.

This champion Rock Forever stallion was bought for  €300,000  and will be kept in Germany at a  dressage training barn in Lower Saxony.  This spectacular Reserve stallion by Vitalis garnered much applause when his auction bid price reached €360,000. The dark brown Belgian bred son of Darco/Quivalbred  out of Ecumina of Prinsenveldwas which was bred by Leo Smets went to a long time customer in Switzerland for €205,000.

The Westfalen Pferdestammbuch team were extremely pleased  auction results at this memorable 2013 licensing. “Our average selling price was €98, 712 for licensed stallions this year with non licensed stallions averaging  €19, 500 “  noted Mr. Wilken Treu.  “ The overall gross sales were very pleasing for our breeders and members at €3,190,000.  We were also very pleased with the international interest in our stallions with successful buyers coming from the USA, Brazil, Estonia, the Netherlands,  Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden and the Ukraine.”
